Project Title:

Project Summary:

In May 2011, the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commisision (UVLSRPC) convened a multi-disciplinary team to conduct a Road Safety Audit on NH Route 11/103 (Washington Street) between Dane Avenue and Winter Street in the City of Claremont. Road Safety Audit team members included representatives of the UVLSRPC, NHDOT Bureau of Highway Design, NHDOT Bureau of Planning and Community Assistance, NHDOT Maintenance District II, NHDOT Bureau of Traffic, City of Claremont Planning and Development Department, City of Claremont Police Department, and City of Claremont Fire Department.

The purpose of the Road Safety Audit was to review accident history on NH Route 11/103 and conduct a field review of the roadway to identify specific safety concerns. The Road Safety Audit team documented 118 reportable crashes (between 2002 and 2010) on NH Route 11/103 between Dane Avenue and Winter Street. Following a field review of the roadway, the Road Safety Audit team recommended that median barriers be extended at the intersection of Washington Street/Bowen Street and that an Access Management Plan be developed for the entire Washington Street Corridor.
