Land Use & Development:
Land use planning provides a framework for municipalities to create policies that guide the development, distribution, and conservation of land within a community so that it can best serve the needs of the citizens. While UVLSRPC has access to resources and expertise in planning principles, it is ultimately the municipality that decides what to implement to suit their unique culture, history, and community interests.
Examples of Land Use Planning include Circuit rider/town planner, planning board support, master plan development, zoning ordinance updates, land use ordinances, land use mapping, parcel mapping, and build-out analysis.
Economic Development:
UVLSRPC is well engaged in planning for economic development and was originally funded as an economic development entity. The RPC serves as a Local Development District (LDD) for the region under the Northern Border Regional Commission Grant Programs. Additionally, the RPC regularly updates the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy as outlined by the US Economic Development Administration.
Broadband & Digital Equity:
Access to fast, reliable internet is a necessity for economic prosperity. Business and industry rely on broadband infrastructure for many basic functions, and households gain access to a wealth of information, services, and opportunities. We have engaged in mapping of broadband services in our area to identify deficiencies in coverage and we regularly work with municipalities to acquire funding for broadband and fiber-optic expansion in our area.
Public Health:
The health of our region is tied to the health of its residents. UVLSRPC is dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and well-being of our communities. Public health planning is deeply integrated into our planning process. We aim to support healthy lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and ensure all residents have access to essential healthcare services.
Technical Assistance:
UVLSRPC staff have a wealth of expertise and are ready to provide technical assistance to our municipalities. We offer on-call technical assistance and planning consultation with timeline dependent on capacity, a certain amount of which is covered by member dues. We also are pleased to offer one-time or recurring technical assistance contracts that allow us to offer customized services tailored to your needs and with a prioritized timeline.
GIS Services:
The Commission provides mapping services to its 27 communities along with federal, state and local agencies and organizations. Using geographic information systems or GIS, Commission staff can create a digital or paper map to suit municipal land use planning, resource protection needs, and more.
